SITA's MD, Colin van Schalkwyk signed on behalf of the company and SABS President, Eugene Julies, signed on behalf of the SABS.

The memorandum of understanding is with regard to ensuring SITA obtains ISO 17799 and other necessary standards certification as well as the South African government and all its 33 national departments and nine provincial legislatures.

Both parties (SITA and SABS), through this partnership strengthened its commitment to the increase of the government service delivery initiative to ultimately benefit the South African citizenry.

Obligations agreed upon in the memorandum, among others, includes the SABS to develop criteria for the evaluation of the current information security management of SITA and all the participating departments, evaluate the system and develop strategies to assist SITA and the participating departments to comply with the standard, as well as create a Web base and database to be maintained by SITA for compliant departments.

SITA will perform the necessary facilitation with regard to the participating departments to enable the SABS to execute its obligations in terms of this agreement.

Both SITA and the SABS are in the process of investigating a cost structure to enable the necessary funding required by the SABS to ensure the successful and sustainable management of the system.
