A new site, due to go live next week, will take the guesswork out of voice over IP (VOIP) for users, by researching and reporting on what's available.
Reece Lindsay, founder of www.whichvoip.co.za, says most users will try VOIP at some stage - but a good experience is not a foregone conclusion.
"Each day we read about something VOIP-related," he says. "If it isn't a new device to make calls from, or a telephony platform that delivers the richness of unified communications, it's classed as the new way of doing business."
Lindsay points out that, as the technology matures, more service providers are entering the market.
"With so many providers out there, and so many places to get information on VOIP technology; customers are often pressurised or forced to make uneducated decisions that end up costing them in the long run," he says. "It all goes down to foresight, planning and preparation, and that's key in any business."
The new site is dedicated to all things VOIP, including the ability to draw research reports on various VOIP providers, browse a directory of reputable providers, resellers, consultants and service partners, learn about VOIP, collaborate with other members in a focused forum, have an opportunity to submit blogs, download articles, browse a technical FAQ section and even purchase components of VOIP online.
"WhichVoIP.co.za provide their users with a central view of VOIP telecoms operators in South Africa and aims to take the guesswork out of who is offering what in our market," Lindsay says.
"This will not only keep people who are investigating these providers informed prior to negotiation, but it will also help providers and resellers benchmark their services, align contracts, and truly be able to offer their customer the best service, best suited to their business.”
