Skype users are unable to change their status or make calls until an update is released.
Real-time video-over-Internet service Skype is down for many users all over the world.
"Some of you may experience problems with Skype presence and may not see online. We have detected an issue with the status settings of Skype," Skype's Leonas Sendrauskas said in a blog post today.
"Affected users will not be able to change their status, their contacts will all show as offline and they will be unable to start Skype calls to them."
The company says instant messages are still being delivered as usual. The issue does not affect Skype for Web, so users are encouraged to log in via a Web browser.
Skype says it is working on an update to resolve the issue.
