Skype to charge for iPhone
Next year, iPhone users can expect to start paying for Skype voice over Internet protocol (VOIP) calls via 3G networks, reports The Register.
According to the VOIP giant, Skype-to-Skype calls over WiFi will remain free, along with Skype over the fixed Internet, but users connecting via 3G will be charged.
This comes after Skype revealed it has received nearly five million downloads of its iPhone version 2.0 iPhone application.
VOIP crooks get bail
A total of 23 people in Bangladesh have been accused of running illegal VOIP services; however 21 of them have secured bail from a Dhaka court, states BDnews24.com.
The organisation was claimed to have been robbing the government of a huge amount of revenue.
Acting metropolitan sessions judge Ismail Hossain approved the bail on Sunday after the suspects surrendered to the court and appealed for bail.
Verizon rolls out VOIP over fibre
Verizon has introduced a VOIP service built across the telco's fibre-optic network, says TeleGeography.
Verizon joins rivals such as Comcast in offering mass market IP telephony, aimed at taking on cable-based competition head-to-head.
The mobile operator claims that its FIOS Digital Voice service uses IP to transmit calls over its private broadband network; which aims to offer more calling features with high voice quality.
