Microsoft has announced that its Small Business Server 2000, which landed in SA this week, will enter the market at the same price point as Windows 2000 Server.

The server suite also sports many enhancements over its predecessor, SBS 4.5. Improvements on the installation allow greater control over installed components, a task list makes administration and set-up tasks simpler, and many remote management features have been added. Every component of SBS 2000 is administrable through a Web browser, as well as the usual methods.

If a service is not functioning properly, or if the machine`s resources are running low, the reseller can contact the customer before the customer knows there is a potential problem in the system.

"The new Small Business Server 2000 release is the best way for small businesses to get Windows 2000 Server," says Desmond Nair, product marketing manager for Microsoft SA, "due to the additional functionality provided by the .NET Server applications and, more importantly, the focus on the unique small business customer`s requirements, delivering an integrated solution with reduced complexity levels and hassle-free management."
