Adventure filming company GoPro has introduced its latest offering: the GoPro HERO4 Session.
The Session is the smallest and lightest camera released by the company. It is 50% smaller and 40% lighter than the HERO4 black and silver cameras.
GoPro launched the small camera at an event yesterday in Johannesburg, and will continue to Durban and Cape Town later this week.
"HERO4 Session combines the best of our engineering and user-experience know-how to deliver our most convenient life-capture solution yet," says Nicholas Woodman, GoPro founder and CEO.
The camera captures 1080p60, 720p100 and 1440p30 video, along with 8MP photos in single, burst and time lapse modes. It also features SuperView, Protune and Auto Low Light recording modes.
The Session only has one button, simplifying the recording process. A short press of the shutter button powers the camera on and begins video recording. A long press of the shutter button powers the camera on and triggers time lapse photo capture. An expanded set of controls and settings can be accessed through the GoPro app.
This GoPro camera does not require separate housing to make it waterproof like other models. It is waterproof down to 10 metres.
The camera also features a dual microphone system that switches sound recording between microphones to reduce wind noise during activities.
The recommended retail price for the GoPro HERO4 Session is R6 499. It is available at Cape Union Mart, Sportsman's Warehouse, Outdoor Warehouse, Incredible Connection, and other independent stockists.
