Madge Networks has made several announcements regarding its flagship product, the Smart 100/16/4 PCI Ringnode.
The Smart 100/16/4 PCI Ringnode is one of the first network adapters to be PC99 certified by Microsoft. The adapter has achieved FCC Class B certification and will now be manufactured with its FCC identifier (NKHPCI4) printed on each adapter`s bracket.
Available for download from the web, is the latest set of released drivers for the Smart 100/16/4 PCI Ringnode. This software continues Madge`s commitment to make the Smart 100/16/4 PCI the standard for all Token Ring platforms and applications. This software comprises Apple MacOs driver, SCO OpenServer 5 unix driver, SCO UnixWare 7 unix driver, Linux full-source unix driver, Linux pre-compiled driver for 4 most popular kernel revisions, Solaris 7 unix driver for Intel platforms, Solaris 7 unix driver for Sparc platforms and Compaq AlphaServer Windows NT driver. This software, together with the LSS 6.1 (1) software, ships with each Ringnode.
Although focused on the Smart 100/16/4 PCI Ringnode (51-05), this software also supports the original Smart 100/16/4 PCI-HS Ringnode (51-07) and the following adapters: Apple: Smart 16/4 PCI, CardBus II; SCO 5: Smart 16/4 PCI; SCO 5: Smart 16/4 PCI; SCO 7: Smart 16/4 PCI; Linux: Smart 16/4 PCI, Presto, CardBus II, PCMCIA; Solaris Intel: Smart 16/4 PCI; Solaris Sparc; Cpq Alpha: Smart 16/4 PCI
This marks the very first time that Madge will make available a full source Linux driver. It is also the first time the company has ever released a driver for Sun Sparc systems. The Sparc driver is only for Smart 100/16/4 PCI. Sun will continue to supply and support 16/4 PCI Token Ring through its OEM relationship with Madge.
In order to make the adapter easier to use in these platforms, straight from the box, these drivers will be added to the LSS 6.1(1) CD. The updated CD will be shipping with all adapters by the end of 1999, paving the way for the Smart 100/16/4 PCI Ringnode to become the de facto industry standard in 2000.
