Smart home pioneer digitalSTROM makes IOTA final

Innovation and impact recognised as it joins industry giants on a coveted shortlist.

Palo Alto, Calif, 19 Nov 2015

TIBCO Software, a global leader in integration, analytics, and event processing, and smart home provider digitalSTROM today announced that digitalSTROM is one of three finalists in the Internet of Things Awards (IOTA) Smart Home category, organised by the publisher of Total Telecom.

Swiss-German company digitalSTROM, which is pioneering a new era in intelligent living, joins industry giants Orange and Nest on the shortlist for Smart Home Initiative, which recognises the solutions that are driving innovation and sustainability in this space and making a significant impact. The winner will be announced at a ceremony on December 1 at Wembley Stadium as part of the World Communication Awards, the global telecoms industry flagship awards event.

Open to the full spectrum of companies involved in the IOT space, the awards are the first major programme to recognise innovation and excellence in the IOT ecosystem, and build on the success of last year's inaugural event, where winners included Blue Yonder and Jasper.

Being shortlisted is a major endorsement of digitalSTROM's progress to date, which includes a 100% growth rate and significant expansion in Europe. The business is moving ever closer to realising its vision of becoming the standard smart living solution across 280 million homes in Europe, and now has its sights set on Asia and the megacities of Abu Dhabi and Shanghai.

Defined by the depth of its connectivity, which results in an entirely integrated smart home ecosystem, digitalSTROM is both cost-effective and accessible. At the heart of the proposition is a smart terminal block containing an integrated patented chip that enables all electrical devices to be connected in one flexible network in real time and transforms every appliance into an IOT device. In addition, the smart home system uses TIBCO's cloud-based Fast Data platform, which essentially connects the home to the cloud and works in the background to ensure fast and reliable execution, and prioritisation of the rules and processes connected with the various services' data for seamless home management.

"As a still-young brand, making this shortlist is hugely gratifying," commented digitalSTROM CEO Martin Vesper. "Fittingly, these awards are about recognizing IoT innovation that is making a tangible impact, something that defines our whole approach as we strive to put the IoT into everyone's hands and create smart home for the masses."

His sentiments were echoed by TIBCO's CTO EMEA, Maurizio Canton. "TIBCO enables digitalSTROM to ensure both scalability within the rapidly growing smart home market, as well as fast and easy integration of upcoming cloud-based value-add services-to quite simply transform how people live their lives. Seeing this recognized on such a high-profile platform is a rewarding validation."

Comprising nine categories, the IoTA awards are celebrating innovation across a range of spheres including data, smart cities, and connectivity.
