SmartForce extends e-learning platform

Johannesburg, 08 Jan 2002

SmartForce, the world`s largest e-Learning company, announced the extension of its learning platform with the addition of a learning management system supporting instructor-led training (ILT) and e-Learning events.

A new competency management system and an advanced reporting functionality were also announced.

The new version of the SmartForce platform is designed to enable SmartForce customers to track in-house and third-party classroom training and will provide a single solution for the management and delivery of all learning events.

Enhancements in the pipeline include further upgrades to SmartForce`s support for mobile users, as well as integrated credentialing functionality to support granting of continuing education and certification credits directly from the SmartForce e-Learning platform.

"Enterprises require a single solution to reduce the complexity, time and costs of blending e-Learning with instructor-led training," says Paul Johnson, MD of SmartForce Africa.

"Blended learning, or ILT coupled with e-Learning, ensures that learners benefit from a variety of approaches to learning."

He says that SmartForce already features virtual classrooms, online seminars and workshops.

"The introduction of ILT management, however, takes the benefits of the classroom a step further by giving enterprises the ability to integrate their third-party and in-house ILT training into their overall learning strategy and to manage that learning on a single platform."

"ILT management provides organisations with alternate ways to measure return on learning investments as it allows administrators to track and report all learning events, on and offline," adds Johnson.

Features

Using ILT management, learning administrators can:

  • Post and edit class and scheduling details, match SmartForce e-Learning equivalents to ILT sessions, manage prerequisites and determine

    class locations;

  • Track enrolment;

  • Generate and access detailed and summary reports for enrolment, session resources, class evaluations,  ILT usage and performance;

  • Gather feedback on individual classes; and

  • Locate specific ILT content and assign it to a student or group.

The ILT management functionality also empowers individual learners to:

  • Search for, enrol in and cancel specific ILT sessions from the SmartForce environment;

  • Submit feedback on satisfaction and instructor effectiveness; and

  • View personal session information.

SmartForce`s LMS manages all the features of e3, the open application architecture that supports the content, technology and services on the fully hosted platform.

SmartForce`s LMS tracks learning at an object level, manages organisational and individual competencies and delivers learning customized to the needs of the organisation and the individual.

SmartForce counts the addition of ILT management functionality as part of its ongoing mission to provide its customers with the richest, most comprehensive learning experiences.
