Storage solutions and services group, Smart Storage Technologies (SmartStor) has been awarded a R3.5 million backup and recovery management project by health and life assurance company, Discovery. The implementation will be carried out in conjunction with VERITAS Software and ADIC.
Says Tony Life, executive director of SmartStor: "The project includes the implementation of an ADIC Scalar 1000 tape library and will assist Discovery Health in improving data security, reducing the required backup time, eliminating unnecessary network traffic caused by backups and, ultimately allowing the backup and recovery infrastructure to keep pace with company growth."
According to Patrice Bouic, deputy GM for the IT Infrastructure at Discovery, by improving the method of backing up and speeding up access to data, Discovery Health will be able to continue to deliver a first-class service to the company and to its members. "Deploying world class rapid recovery products and methodologies can produce significant cost savings to Discovery by reducing possible application downtime," he says, "and ensures that Discovery always protects its members' data."
