SMC Networks SA is supporting users as they migrate from Ethernet to Fast Ethernet in a bid to relieve network congestion.
"Running more and more bandwidth intensive applications, workgroup users today tend to find dual-speed switches expensive solutions and traditional repeaters limited in capability," says Greg Perkins, country manager of SMC Networks SA.
The EZ Hub 10/100 from SMC, a 24-port desktop hub solution, supports auto-negotiation and simultaneous bridging between all ports while offering users as much as 1.2Gbps dedicated bandwidth.
"This means the move to switching is not yet necessary, as the hub relieves the dual-speed legacy of hubs that have only one two-port bridge connecting the 10Mbps and 100Mbps segments" he says.
Departmental and workgroup environments are not restricted by the topology limitations of traditional repeaters with the EZ Hub. It can be endlessly cascaded with 100 metre cable lengths between any two connected units.
Operating in half-duplex mode the unit features store and forward which reduces dropped packets and packet errors on the network. This is because frames are stored and forwarded to the destination segments only, so other ports are not bombarded with broadcast frames.
Back pressure features ensure there is no packet loss. The unit supports standards and will be compatible with all standards compliant IEEE 802.3 Ethernet and IEEE 802.3u Fast Ethernet protocol devices.
