Extending it's Tiger line of workgroup LAN solutions, SMC has announced the TigerCard 1000, a Gigabit Ethernet network interface card for 32 and 64-bit PCI local bus computers.
"Operating under the 1000BASE-SX short-wavelength laser specification, this card provides up to ten times the bandwidth of Fast Ethernet over multimode fibre links. With high throughput levels and an abundance of advanced features, this network card is an ideal solution for today's high-end servers and workstations," says Greg Perkins, country manager of SMC SA.
The TigerCard 1000's ASIC technology and performance enhancing techniques maximise throughput and minimise CPU utilisation. The card also provides independent receive and transmit buffers with packet bursting across the PCI bus to dramatically increase throughput.
Intelligent interrupt management and IP, TCP and UDP checksum off-loading minimises host CPU time. "Operating in full-duplex mode on a 64-bit PCI machine, this card is capable of delivering an extremely high level of throughput to the host computer," says Perkins.
The TigerCard 1000 also includes advanced features such as VLAN tagging, Quality of Service (QoS) priority queuing, full duplex flow control and Jumbo Frame support.
A convenient configuration and diagnostics utility allows the card to be completely configured in a Windows NT environment. The TigerCard 1000 cards ship with drivers for most popular network operating systems, all available on SMC's SuperDisk installation diskette or Web site (www.smc-europe.com).
