Following the May appointment of Ultra Computer Technologies as an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) the local office of networking specialist, SMC Networks, has inked deals with an additional two players.
The companies, Tecnet and Siltek Distribution Dynamics (SDD`s) Xylo PC division will provide an opportunity to further grow SMC`s presence in South Africa while promoting OEM brands in previously untapped markets such as the home and small business arena.
"Tecnet supplies SMC product across the board - these include network cards right up to the stackable hubs and switches. Small businesses and corporates can only benefit from our deal as the OEM prices are much lower," says Greg Perkins, SMC country manager.
Freddie Cochrane, sales manager at Tecnet, says SMC network cards are being installed in all the IBM, Compaq, Digital and Mecer machines his company supplies to customers. These include medium and large corporates, government and parastatal organisations and educational institutions.
Stephan van Rensburg, GM of SDD`s Xylo division, says the company already has a number of OEM contracts in place to supply hardware and software for its locally assembled machines.
He cites the competitive pricing, ease of installation and low failure rate of SMC`s products as the main reasons they have found a home in the new machines.
In addition, SMC already ships product with the distributor so the infrastructure is in place to supply, source, support, service and obtain the necessary information on all its products.
Looking to the future Van Rensburg believes the inclusion of SMC network cards in SDD`s machines may open the door for additional sales of the network solution provider`s products.
