SMC Networks` Barricade Broadband Router and Server SMC7208SBR is now available in South Africa through local SMC distributor, Memtek-MMW.
Says Matthews von Brandis, product manager at Memtek-MMW: "This platform-independent multi-functional broadband storage server is combined with a 7-port 10/100Mbps switch and features a built-in print server as well as network file sharing. It also provides an Internet firewall for enhanced security against hackers and other unauthorised users."
An integrated RS232 port provides back-up dial-up capability via an external 56K modem. "The fact that the product has a built-in 20GB hard drive is a major benefit, as it enables additional network storage within the LAN."
The Barricade provides a WAN port, as well as Network Address Translation (NAT), which extends simultaneous Internet access for up to 253 PCs on the LAN. In addition, the product offers content filtering, allowing a home or small office user to define which Web sites the rest of the LAN is allowed to visit.
"The SMC7208SBR is a truly all-in-one solution," comments Von Brandis. "It integrates five products within a network - a print server, a router, a Network Attached Storage (NAS) unit, a switch, and an external modem port - into one physical product."
It supports all major Network Operating Systems and is protocol independent. It also offers Web-based management capabilities.
