SMEs adapt to risks

A Symantec survey of small to midsize enterprises (SMEs) from 28 different countries found companies are focusing more on information protection and backup and recovery. Driving these changes is a fear of losing data, states eWeek.

In a May poll of 2 152 executives and IT decision-makers at companies with between 10 and 499 employees, Symantec found SMEs are now spending two-thirds of their time dealing with things related to information protection, such as computer security, backup and archival tasks, and disaster preparedness.

Some 87% said they have a disaster preparedness plan, but just 23% rate it as 'pretty good' or 'excellent'.

Demon rebrands network for SMEs

Internet service provider Demon has rebranded several of its services with a focus on SMEs, says V3.co.uk.

Demon, part of Cable & Wireless, will offer assured-rate services to SMEs, promising guaranteed minimum connection speeds on its ADSL2 services.

The assured speeds are: 256Kbps, 512Kbps, 1Mbps or 2Mbps depending on location and package.

IndiaMart, IAMIA host SME conference

IndiaMart has partnered with the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMIA) to present a conference for SMEs for cost-effective ICT solutions, states the Economic Times.

The solutions can ease and streamline aspects of SME businesses in accounting, HR, business communications, and sales and marketing.

"Convergence of information and communication technology has catalysed business opportunities across geographies. However, Indian SMEs are still to leverage the benefits of ICT,” says Dinesh Agarwal, founder and CEO of IndiaMart.
