SMEs urged to value planning

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) must not underestimate the level of planning required when implementing enterprise content management, warns Gartner, reports Computer World.

Gartner analyst Kenneth Chin, says: “Over 40% of SMEs underestimate the process and organisation issues associated with implementing enterprise content management due to poor planning.”

He says another challenge is that more than 50% of large enterprise content management projects - those that are half a million dollars or more - fail if the organisation doesn't spend the sufficient time planning, in terms of product and vendor selection.

Quadrant unveils IntelliChief update

Quadrant Software has released a content management and workflow routing application, IntelliChief version 3.1, IT Jungle.

IntelliChief is a suite of Windows-based content management software, which the company says is designed to help organisations adopt paper-free processes for common business tasks.

According to Quadrant, the software includes new features governing whether a document can be released or held and integrates with e-mail.

Netflix comes to Android

Netflix says its instant streaming service will be coming to mobile gadgets running Google's Android operating system, early next year, says Cnet.

Greg Peters of Netflix product development says the incomplete roll-out is due to the fact that there's no common way to ensure and rights management across Android devices.

Peters says Netflix thinks providing its service to at least some Android users is better than nothing, adding that Netflix is continuing work with Android developers, carriers, and others to create a standard, platform-wide solution to the problem.
