So, are you infected or not?

Cape Town, 31 Mar 2007

Even with the latest antivirus product installed, there still is a chance that you have malware on your PC.

There is currently more malware than ever before as cyber-crooks try to install malicious tools silently on computers. In fact, last year Panda Software detected more malware than in the previous 15 years combined. Yes: a 172% increase!

This situation has left security laboratories overrun with the amount of new examples of malware they receive every day. The result is that traditional antivirus solutions can't detect all threats that exist nowadays. This is why so many computers are infected, even when they have an antivirus installed. 76% of companies surveyed by Panda had some type of malware on their networks. Yikes!

Is your computer infected?

Panda's Infected or Not campaign (www.infectedornot.com) is offering users two innovative security tools to check whether computers are infected. They can even detect malware that has evaded detection from traditional security systems. The two utilities are:

* NanoScan, a rapid online virus scanner, ultra-light and extremely effective. This tool can detect a multitude of active viruses (including those that slip past traditional solutions) in just a few seconds.
* TotalScan, an online antivirus with exceptional detection capacity.

The great power of these tools for detecting threats is based on a dual focus. On the one hand, they take the proactive approach of the latest-generation Genetic Heuristic TruPrevent(tm) technologies, and on the other hand, they implement the new 'collective intelligence' approach developed by Panda Research and hosted in a network of datacentres (initially made up of around 100 servers) managed by PandaLabs. The pillars of the 'collective intelligence' approach are:

* Collection of data from millions of users, experts, companies and other partners.
* Automated processing of data.
* Making this knowledge available.

Infectedornot.com includes a statistics section illustrating the most important data collected during the campaign. The data here reflects a range of information including the number of computers infected, their security status and the most virulent types of threats.
