Soarsoft Africa has announced the local availability of a free tool developed by Metalogix Software in conjunction with Microsoft to offer organisations a powerful and convenient way to adopt SharePoint 2010 search capabilities within an existing SharePoint 2007 environment.
This will allow users to take advantage of:
* More accurate and relevant search results.
* Improved scalability and performance.
* Increased search flexibility and customisation to address specific business requirements.
Says Chris Hathaway, Director at local distributor Soarsoft Africa: "Locally we have seen that many organisations would like to migrate to SharePoint 2010, but are proceeding cautiously due to the criticality of a successful migration. Search First not only enables existing SharePoint 2007 customers to leverage the search capabilities of SharePoint 2010, but also provides the opportunity to better manage data and prepare for their eventual migration to 2010."
"Understanding search is the primary means in the enterprise for surfacing and locating information and as a result, has become a mission-critical component of SharePoint deployments. The rise in adoption of SharePoint 2010 has led to more customers seeking to leverage the benefits of the new search architectures, whether Enterprise Search in SharePoint 2010, or through implementing FAST Search Server as part of their topologies.
“In either scenario, customers are looking to minimise the impact of upgrade and promote more rapid adoption - scenarios often include migrating or upgrading their existing SharePoint deployments to include search, or migrating components of their existing deployments," said Bill Baer, Microsoft's Technical Product Manager for SharePoint.
