Softline Accpac redefines SaaS offering in a virtualised world

Johannesburg, 15 Apr 2010

Leading provider of business management software solutions, Softline Accpac, has launched a SaaS solution the company says is more suited to the virtualised business world of today.

This new approach to SaaS will combine the power of Softline Accpac's ERP and CRM software, while the data centre will be managed externally, giving customers more freedom of choice when it comes to the management of their data and business applications.

“Multi-tenancy may have worked 10 years ago, but is simply not suited to meet the business challenges companies face today. This traditional method of SaaS is outdated and does not suit the needs of our business partners as we believe in giving them, and our customers, full access and control of their own environment. This is simply not feasible using a multi-tenancy model,” says Softline Accpac, Vice-President Sales, Africa, Keith Fenner.

Using virtualisation as a platform for hosted service provision has become an increasingly viable alternative to multi-tenancy. It eliminates customisation complexity, and through the use of virtual appliances, it provides a direct route for traditional on-premises applications to be redeployed in a SaaS mode without requiring major application re-architecture.

In addition, another difference to the multi-tenancy approach to SaaS, a virtual appliance can also be deployed on-premises for customers that need local network access to the running application, or have security requirements that a third-party hosting model does not meet.

The underlying virtualisation technology also allows for rapid movement of virtual appliances instances between physical execution environments. Traditional approaches to SaaS fix the application in place on the hosted infrastructure.
