Software AG announces natural 3.1 for mainframe environments under OS/390

Johannesburg, 12 Jan 1999

Natural will be a true, enterprise-wide application server following Software AG`s announcement of Natural version 3.1 for mainframe environments under OS/930. This is the view of Schalk Viljoen, general manager at SPL, part of JSE-listed Dimension Data.

Natural version 3.1 will be available for all platforms from PC to Unix and Open VMS to mainframes under MVS, BS2000 and VSE.

The latest version includes NaturalX for OS/390, which makes developing and using DCOM components possible in mainframe environments and also allows existing applications to be expanded with the latest software technologies - including their use for electronic business solutions, a focus area for both Software AG and SPL for 1999.

"NaturalX is expanding the DCOM standard for the mainframe platform, so users can now also run server-based components on all levels," says Viljoen.

The version 3.1 also features integration of NaturalWeb, which allows mainframe applications developed with Natural to be displayed on a browser; improved performance and reduced load for remote procedure calls; and support for DB2 version 5 - stored procedures and triggers for DB2 can now also be written in Natural

The new mainframe version of Natural Security provides a central, cross-platform security approach for heterogeneous systems. The security data for all Natural environments are maintained centrally on the server and can be accessed by all other Natural environments.

Natural 3.1 for OS/390 will be available locally in April 1999.
