A new solution called Adabas Replication Solution, allowing mainframe customers to efficiently replicate Adabas information to DB2, Oracle and other systems, has significantly bolstered Software AG's comprehensive legacy modernisation strategy.
This strategy, being followed by all Software AG offices around the globe including SA, aims to assist organisations preserve and extend the value of their investments in mainframe and other enterprise systems.
Expounding on the strategy, local sales director, Devon Dalbock, said companies have invested millions in mainframe and legacy systems that continue to efficiently support mission-critical applications.
By choosing legacy modernisation, businesses can continuously increase the productivity of these systems for years to come, he said.
Software AG's legacy modernisation is comprised of three segments: optimise, extend and manage.
"Optimise enables organisations to develop and maintain mainframe applications through popular desktop tools, thereby reducing the cost of development and maintenance," said Dalbock. "It improves application response times and ensures high availability.
"Extend enables deployment of applications to users on diverse platforms in remote locations, eliminating the need to modify host application code. It also lets developers non-invasively encapsulate mainframe/Unix programming logic and access legacy data using standards-based technologies such as SQL, XML and Web services.
"Finally, manage provides reliable and secure application and data centre management for applications built using Software AG products as a foundation. This makes costs predictable and frees internal resources to focus on strategic or high-priority tasks. It also supports the complete migration process, including data, platform, application and product migration.
"As part of the extend offerings, the Adabas Replication Solution is designed for large organisations that have mission-critical information residing in Adabas, and need to share changes to that data in real-time or near-real-time with other systems, databases or people.
"The solution automatically publishes data changes on the fly to the correct target application, regardless of what language the target application is written in or where it is located.
"By propagating data to other systems more quickly and effectively, companies using the Adabas Replication Solution can gain new business value from Adabas.
"Potential customer benefits of the Adabas Replication Solution include improved customer service and operational efficiency based upon availability of 'fresher' information to feed other systems; greater hardware and network efficiency, since only changed data is replicated and delivered to other systems; and higher IT productivity by reducing the number IT staff who must have familiarity with Adabas.
"In addition, the Adabas Replication Solution conserves CPU resources, because it is able to replicate the changed data while it is still inside of Adabas," said Dalbock.
