Microsoft SA has joined hands with online auction site thelot.co.za to support a charity organisation aiding HIV-positive children. Microsoft donated copies of two of its latest products, MS Windows2000 and Office 2000 for online auction.

All proceeds generated will go to Nazareth House. At time of publishing, there remained five hours to bid for the 10 copies of the products, with the latest price at R2 805.25. The package is set to at about R7 000.

"We believe that the latest versions of Microsoft donated products will appeal to this Web site`s diverse user base," says Mike Cathie, business marketing director at Microsoft SA.

"Windows 2000 will be launched on 17 February and we are giving consumers the opportunity to purchase the product before the official launch."

"The concept of this Web site is simple: Microsoft`s software products are exhibited in a virtual shop front where potential buyers browse and bid for bargains," says Stephen Logan, MD of thelot.co.za.

There are currently 29 HIV-positive children under the care of Nazareth House and five abandoned handicapped babies without HIV.

"We urge the public to participate in the bidding as Nazareth House operates solely on public support," Cathie adds.
