Software design company, CybiCOM, puts Durban on global ICT map

Johannesburg, 19 Jan 2005

Durban-based CybiCOM is busy putting the holiday city on the ICT map. It's a software development company that specifies, designs, builds and supports applications for the commercial, telecommunications, municipal, defence, education and leisure markets. The company supplies software development services and has developed strategic business alliances both within SA and internationally.

Says director, Karen Kelroe-Cooke: "CybiCOM continually seeks opportunities to further promote our quality software development capability, demonstrate our competence, initiate value-add alliances and extend market exposure.

"We offer services whereby we develop locally in SA and deliver internationally, or develop on our customer's site, either within SA or internationally. Regardless of whether our resources work on our customer's site, or ours, all our projects are structured, planned and managed to ensure continual communication, quality assurance and effective delivery. It is CybiCOM's experience that a relationship where we primarily develop locally in Durban, using our existing facilities and infrastructure and then deliver nationally or internationally, works extremely well from both a cost-effective and production view.'

"We strive to provide professional and intelligent solutions, which are supported by client-determined business specifications, quality management levels and security clearance requirements. Our Engineering Model encompasses formal requirements management, system design, software design, software implementation and integration workflows. CybiCOM's software development projects are structured, planned and managed to ensure continual communication, quality assurance and delivery are constructive and effective."

The company's client base and range of projects are broad and include the defence industry, aviation, manufacturing, municipal and training. Project briefs encompass the design, development and maintenance of integrated systems for aviation, simulation software, human machine interface (displays and inputs) for optronics, navigation system data, the creation-engineering of training and technical manuals for a helicopter simulator and for telecommunications, the design, development and maintenance of a transmission network management product, including physical and logical configuration of network elements, internet/intranet-based network planning and scheduling, financial workflow, management information system and disaster recovery.

According to Kelroe-Cooke, the credentials of the CybiCOM team, together with their project management, research and development, training, software quality assurance and configuration control standards, ensure a powerful platform for the continued development of advanced software systems and products.

CybiCOM, through strategic partnerships and value-add alliances with appropriate organisations, including Vodacom Transmission Services and Ekurhuleni Municipality, continually seek complementary relationships in joint efforts to supplement existing skills, ensure the capability to satisfy customer requirements and facilitate inter-company skill transfer.

CybiCOM may be based on the Indian Ocean, but the company does all its surfing on the Net, with hardly time to look at the sea, let alone swim in it.
