Software Futures appointment to drive empowerment

Johannesburg, 15 Jul 2003

Futures has appointed an executive to facilitate its to become an empowered company.

The executive, Jessie Naicker, has been appointed from within the company and will maintain his role as account manager for central government.

Software Futures MD Derek Hughes, who was previously in charge of the company`s empowerment strategy, says a dedicated executive was needed to drive the strategy and be a role model. Naicker`s role will encompass recruiting graduates.

"When the need arises, Software Futures targets university graduates in order to bring new young talent into the company and improve employment equity," Hughes says. "Jessie will therefore be responsible for targeting BCom students which represent the demographics of our country."

Naicker says while the company will have little problem finding black equity partners, internal transformation will be more difficult.

"Software Futures is implementing strict quotas in terms of recruitment within a set time range to ensure internal transformation. Black IT Java specialists in particular will be identified and brought into the company. We will also target graduates and mentor them once they are in the company," Naicker says.
