Software Futures, a Computer Configurations Holdings company, has been awarded the joint agency for Boole & Babbage systems management tools in South Africa.
Systems management business unit MD Allen Lewis has welcomed the announcement, which complements Software Futures` integrated set of systems management solutions from New Dimension and Peregrine Systems.
"18 months ago we took a stance that systems management frameworks don`t work - an opinion shared by the Gartner Group - and we`ve since been in the process of putting together a set of specialised tools that support this view," says Lewis. "The Boole & Babbage toolkit, as part of the BMC stable with New Dimension`s Control suite of products, is a vital piece in the puzzle of finding the most flexible, robust set of tools to meet the diverse business challenges we face today."
Lewis adds that effective systems management is not about tools, but rather the business dynamics that call on different tools for specific jobs. "That`s why comprehensive tool frameworks don`t provide solid return on investment, and why an integrated set of solutions is key to building competitive advantage in the enterprise and a good return on your tool investment," he says. "We need to understand the business issues involved for each client, discuss the relevant solutions to those issues and only then look at the tools that can action our findings.
In Peregrine`s ServiceCenter CSD Software Futures has a bi-directional product interface to Boole & Babbage`s Command/Post, the industry-leading choice for managing end-to-end availability and delivering on service level requirements in the most complex IT environments. "Boole & Babbage products share a long history of co-operation and integration in the European market with New Dimension`s Control suite of systems management solutions, which we represent exclusively."
Software Futures will share the South African agency with BMC distributor AST.
