Software Futures, Bryan Hattingh in `new-age` HR partnership

Johannesburg, 26 Nov 1998
Software Futures and the Bryan Hattingh Group (BHG) have established a people resourcing partnership that sees BHG take on all aspects of human resources sourcing, procurement and development for Software Futures.

In terms of the partnership, BHG becomes the supplier of HR services to Software Futures.

"Our relationship goes beyond service provision and is all about business partnering," says BHG MD Bryan Hattingh. "The goal is optimal resourcing for Software Futures."

"It has become clear that talent is the scarcest resource of all and that companies which can attract, retain and maximise the best talent in the industry will be tomorrow`s winners," says Software Futures MD Aletha Ling. "At Software Futures we are passionate about the topic of talent; our partnership with BHG reflects this."

Hattingh says the partnership has seen BHG embed itself in Software Futures.

"To provide the right level of service, we have to get as close as possible to our customer. So with Software Futures we sit in on strategy meetings, attend functions and conduct exhaustive interviews. This allows us to determine what it is that makes Software Futures unique, and to understand the softer nuances of the group and its people."

From this process, says Hattingh, flows the recruitment of people. "We perform preselection and screening of candidates, and then present them to the appropriate decisionmaker."

He adds there are a number of critical success factors for such a relationship. "There has to be a fluid two-way communication flow. It`s imperative that at all times we review our status so we know where there`s room for improvement. In so doing we can constantly recalibrate our processes."

In time, says Hattingh, BHG will, in alignment with Software Futures` business strategy, create a comprehensive HR plan, with appropriate people and skills.

A key goal of the partnership is to make every aspect of the recruitment process positive - even for people whose applications are not successful.

"Not everyone will be accepted," says Hattingh. "But we want to make the interview experience so positive that we also win over the people we don`t employ. We want these people to say to themselves: `That`s a great company - it`s a pity I didn`t make it.`"

The BHG process goes beyond due diligence, adds Hattingh. "We take analysis of candidates to the deepest possible level. Using formalised methodologies, we ascertain people`s key drivers, help develop them as people and through this, increase and enhance the company ethos. This soon rubs off on new employees."

Ling adds: "The Bryan Hattingh Group has established a reputation for quality people resourcing. Today`s radically different business world requires an equally radical approach to the issue of people resourcing, such as we have established with Bryan and his group."

Software Futures is a subsidiary of Computer Configurations Holdings and the Bryan Hattingh Group is a company in the Advsource group.
