SolarWinds releases virtualisation management solution

SolarWinds Virtualisation Manager is a virtualisation management application for managing VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisors.

PR Wire says SolarWinds Virtualisation Manager's unified approach makes it easy to take control of a virtualised environment regardless of size, taking users from the early stages of virtualisation deployment all the way to implementation of private cloud initiatives and IT as a service.

“We are seeing more customers adding a second hypervisor to their virtualisation mix or choosing to migrate to another, to maximise potential cost savings and avoid vendor lock-in,” said Sanjay Castelino, VP and market leader at SolarWinds.

SolarWinds' own survey indicates that about 85% of its customers deploy VMware's hypervisor, followed by Microsoft Hyper-V at 55%, Storage Review writes.

Given these trends, IT managers may find it appealing to be able to select a management software package and still offer compliance to customers with service level agreements (SLAs) that require one VM platform or the other.
