Local e-business and enterprise software developer Solit has announced the South African launch of Tilos, its re-branded suite of collaborative applications that can be combined to provide a total e-business solution.

Built on Microsoft technology, Tilos has already cracked world markets in the Middle East and Europe. The product suite enables companies to consolidate, manage, process and analyse information across and outside of the enterprise, allowing for the development of completely Web-enabled business solutions.

"The product suite has been on the market for four years already and we decided to re-brand and launch it as Tilos to facilitate international marketing," says Victoria Vaksman, director at Solit. "Tilos has had major successes locally and internationally, and our strategy is now to focus on the marketing of the Tilos brand rather than on distinct products within the suite."

Solit has official representation in France, the UK and Holland. Existing European customers include Rockwood Pigments, ICI Chlor Chemicals, Sun Chemical Corporation, MacFarlan Smith, Kappa Container Board and many more. Local customers include Gold Fields, the First Rand Group, Denel Personnel Solutions, Naspers Group, Bank Windhoek (Namibia) and Impala Platinum.

The company's locally developed software is complemented by Solit's understanding of business processes and competes against the largest global software names. It has annual combined turnover exceeding R100 million and is experiencing an ever-increasing demand for its products and services from multinational corporations. Solit mainly focuses on two market sectors: process manufacturing and services - with emphasis on the financial services sector and the HR and payroll market.

"The Tilos suite's success sends out a very positive message to the local IT market," says Vaksman. "South African IT people are highly sought after overseas and their skills have been acknowledged by the international IT industry. The fact that a locally-developed product such as Tilos has achieved international recognition gives us even more reason to be optimistic."

Tilos Portal

At the heart of the product suite is Tilos Portal which provides an access and control point for managing workloads and administering complex environments. The portal offers a customisable Web framework that can be modified according to personal business rules. It provides a single point of access to multiple systems, enables the publishing of news to intranets and corporate websites, and has the facility to launch workflow processes. Access to all corporate information through Tilos Portal is fulfilled by the workflow and document management e-components of the Tilos suite, which enable access to structured and unstructured data. Tilos Workflow creates the logic required by the enterprise portal to enable participation in business processes. Tilos Documents is used for administering and viewing documents within the portal.

Solit is also able to use its e-components to rapidly create a variety of applications. One example is Tilos Self Service, which allows employees, customers and partners to take on responsibility for administering their own information on the Web and provides them with access to business processes. Tilos HR and Payroll and Tilos MIS++ are becoming widely accepted and, in certain industry sectors, are being seen as the de facto standard.

"When developing Tilos, we took into consideration the fact that all the big corporate enterprises, who are our potential customers, have invested millions in their installed systems. We therefore took an add-on approach, enabling companies to add e-business functionality to their existing products and leverage their technology investments rather than having to replace the bulk of their current software applications."

Vaksman adds that this was a direct result of the company's core skills in and understanding of back-office environments. "Most companies involved in the development of e-business software have Internet and front-end expertise. Solit, however, having specialised experience in and knowledge of corporate ERP solutions, built Tilos to take cognisance of the complexity of back-office systems."
