Solutions from AmVia make SITA`s final cut

Johannesburg, 02 Aug 2006

Local value-added distributor AmVia is pleased to announce that Meridio and EMC EmailXtender have made the final cut for SITA`s Tender 398, for the supply of enterprise content management (ECM) systems to government.

The tender was issued in a bid to move government away from manual and paper-intensive solutions, to a more streamlined and digitised environment.

Says Kevin Hurwitz, Managing Director of AmVia: "As local custodians of the Meridio and EMC EmailXtender products, we are delighted about this announcement, as it is testimony to the fact that the products we support are recognised as world leaders in the ECM and business process management (BPM) arenas."

The tender was issued in light of the service delivery demands being placed on government by its stakeholders in an increasingly electronic environment. The ultimate goal of which is to move government away from paper-based and manual processes which no longer meet the demands of the public.

Tender 398 provides government departments with a shortlist of ECM products and preferred suppliers who have already been vetted by SITA and have met with stringent selection criteria. Based on this, both SITA and its clients at a national, provincial and local government level, are now able to view the successful parties of this tender, as preferred products and suppliers, and can earmark these for consideration in tenders when ECM solutions are required.

Objectives prescribed by the tender include: the provision of a list of ECM products to speed up procurement procedures; solutions which cover entire ECM solution delivery or components thereof; solutions which meet government requirements as well as minimum security requirements; solutions which are modular, interoperable, standards-based and non-proprietary as well as platform agnostic; cost-effective and affordable; and suppliers who are qualified to render the requested services.

According to Hurwitz, Meridio was selected for its ability to deliver enterprise-wide enterprise document and records management (eDRM) solutions. The Meridio solutions enable organisations to integrate their existing information sources seamlessly and securely. Users can access the full functionality of the Meridio solution via familiar Microsoft tools, maximising adoption and reducing training overheads.

In his opinion, EMC EmailXtender was selected as it is an archiving solution that helps retain and manage e-mail as a record of business in order to achieve regulatory compliance, adhere to corporate retention policies, and support legal discovery activities.

The individual components making up Tender 398 include: imaging; document management; digital asset management; Web-content management; collaboration; records management; integrated document archive and retrieval systems; portal management; business process management and workflow; biometrics and digital signatures and certificates; search and retrieval; e-mail archiving; and e-forms management.

"Tenders such as 398 provide government the ability to fast-track their technology needs, which are a central part of the e-government promise. We are very proud that two of the products we endorse have made it onto this list," states Hurwitz.

Government will be able to acquire Meridio and EMC EmailXtender solutions from AmVia partners Intervate, GijimaAst and Business Connexion.
