Sonic Software, an operating unit of Progress Software and the inventor of the enterprise service bus (ESB), has been cited as an ESB leader in the recently published Forrester Wave report for the enterprise service bus market.
Sonic ranked number one in installed base, financial viability and in overall strategy for its ESB-based Sonic Software service-oriented architecture (SOA) Suite. It also obtained consistently high marks across all categories, particularly in market presence.
In Forrester`s estimation, "An enterprise service bus is the most popular way to do SOA-based integration." Recognised as the de facto infrastructure for SOAs, ESB growth is expected to surge in 2006. Forrester estimates that "about a third of US infrastructure decision-makers plan to increase the scope of ESB deployment in the next 12 months".
"The Sonic Software SOA suite is a leader in the enterprise service bus suite market today, in both market share and technology innovation," states Mike Gilpin, VP, research director at Forrester Research in the Enterprise Service Bus Scorecard Summary: Sonic Software Key Findings From The Forrester Wave: Enterprise Service Bus, Q4 2005.
"Sonic Software invented the ESB, and is the ESB thought leader. But being first is not its most important quality - instead, it is Sonic`s ability to deliver one of the more comprehensive suites of SOA enablement products, coupled with sufficient size to calm buyers` fears, and a track record of successful customers."
Sonic has over 300 ESB/SOA Suite customers, 250 of whom are in deployment.
Key wins in the last six months include American Red Cross; AutoTrader; Bank of America; Pacific Blue Cross; City of Portland, OR; Tarrant County, TX; Telecom Italia; and the City of Washington, DC.
"The industry is starting to look at the real differences between SOA infrastructure software vendors and their offering," says Rick Parry, MD of Progress Software South Africa. "This report validates Sonic`s position as the inventor and top ESB provider in terms of both market share and strategy."
