Sonic Software, represented locally by Progress Software SA, proved to be highly successful in the South African market during 2002, with local operations producing 700% of budgeted revenue for the year. This success was achieved as the market proved to be more receptive to Sonic`s value proposition than expected, which led to a high rate of adoption.
Progress Software SA MD Rick Parry says that since introducing SonicXQ, the market`s first enterprise service bus (ESB), Sonic has emerged as a pioneer in standards-based business integration, as illustrated in Sonic`s 2002 Top Ten list of accomplishments.
In Gartner`s 2003 predictions series, the analyst firm forecasts that ESBs will become a "major market force during 2003".
2002 was a year marked by milestones and successes on many fronts for Sonic. The company`s "top 10" list of accomplishments for 2002 include:
* Nearly 100% revenue growth in 2002.
* The company pioneered the ESB model to support the cost-effective integration of applications across the extended business.
* Gartner identified ESBs as "a new variation of software infrastructure" and predicted "a majority of large businesses will have an ESB running by 2005".
* Sonic launched SonicSynergy business partner program; integrators, including Northrop Grumman, TRW and Valtech, got on the "bus" with comprehensive partner empowerment, top software products, training and project lead development.
* Sonic solidified leadership in standards-based integration through acquisition of technology from eXcelon Corporation.
* Sonic beat out products from IBM and BEA to win first place awards for Best Web Services Middleware and Best Web Services Foundation in "Web Services Journal" Reader`s Choice Awards.
* SonicMQ 4.0 topped IBM WebSphereMQ (formerly MQSeries) in messaging benchmarks; and outperformed WebSphereMQ 5.2 in a series of independently performed tests.
* Sonic launched SonicXQ 1.5, and InfoWorld, reviewing it, stated, "Sonic earns high marks for doing so much so well."
* Sonic`s Dave Chappell won the "Java Technology Achievement Award" from JavaPro magazine for "Outstanding Individual Contribution to the Java Community".
* Intelligent Enterprise identified Sonic Software as a "Company to Watch" in 2003.
"Progress SA sees some exciting prospects for 2003 and will be conducting its first Sonic Synergy programme in February," says Parry. "Together with Sonic partners and Progress ISVs, the company will see even greater growth this year. We foresee that as the eXcelon products become integrated into the Sonic product set, the South African market will mirror the excitement of the rest of the world and Sonic will rapidly become a major player locally."
