Sony appoints WCS as distributor

Sony, a provider of LCD monitors and optical storage devices, and components distributor, World Computer Systems (WCS) have concluded an agreement whereby the latter will distribute the complete product set of Sony Visio LCD monitors through its dealer and solution provider base in SA. The deal was effective from 1 January 2004.

Mohammad Denath, managing director at WCS, says the deal opens up avenues of business in sectors where the company didn`t focus in the past. "Sony is a strong and established brand in the consumer electronics market and WCS will leverage off this strength to raise product awareness and our profile in the reseller base."

Andrew Joubert, product manager, Home Display, at Sony South Africa, says the company has set stringent criteria, particularly in terms of distribution infrastructure, for appointing distribution partners. Joubert singles out distribution infrastructure as key to selecting a distributor. "The Sony Visio LCD is a broad array and will give WCS the depth to reach untapped markets, especially in the home-user environment."

WCS will be required to purchase a minimum stock quantity monthly. "This commitment will ensure that WCS receives exclusive pricing from Sony," Joubert says.

Sony will provide technical support to WCS channel partners and training to the distributor`s technical staff.
