Sony delivers new features on flagship video conferencing system

Johannesburg, 17 Sept 2004

Sony has upgraded its most comprehensive offering yet for video conferencing users with further enhanced audio quality, wideband audio over ISDN and additional language support in the user interface.

In addition to nine languages (English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Korean), the PCS-1P now supports six new languages. From now on, users can choose to navigate through on-screen menus in Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Danish, Dutch and Russian as well.

"Since its launch in October 2003, the PCS-1P has proved to be the most powerful and compact unit in its class that has delivered unequalled audio and video quality to professionals," said Will Klopper, product manager at Sony Business SA. "Further expansion of the multi-language support to operate the PCS-1P will open new doors to a wider audience where native language support is a must."

The new V2.4 software enhances the audio quality of the PCS-1P even further by improving the echo cancelling algorithm. The PCS-1P can now be used in even larger conferencing rooms than before by sufficiently cancelling the echo and reducing the background noise.

After being the first in the industry to introduce MPEG4 wideband audio coding over IP, Sony is now making this outstanding audio quality available over ISDN connections as well. The near CD audio quality offered by MPEG4 coding will greatly enhance the feeling of having a natural meeting experience during your video conference.

New PCS-1P systems will be shipped with V2.4 software and existing users can install the software on their systems. The new software is available as a free of charge download from www.sonybiz.net/pcs1software.
