Sony Ericsson will participate in the Ericsson Application Awards, a move it says is in line with its commitment to being number one in the Android market.

Moreover, according to the company, the awards are an opportunity to leverage maximum on the Android platform for both brands.

Entrants will be required to develop an “App for the Networked Society”. According to Sony Ericsson, the app should promote innovations from a variety of environments, places and situations.

Prizes include the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc and Xperia Ray, as well as business accessories, including a Sony Ericsson MW600 headset.

The awards are open to students and small enterprises across Africa. Sony Ericsson says entries will be open until 31 January 2012. Four competitions will be run simultaneously for East Africa, West Africa, southern Africa and the central Africa regions.
