Sony explores Android gaming market
Sony is apparently eager to profit from the still relatively immature Android gaming market, writes CNET News.
The company introduced a program to bring older PlayStation games to Android devices - phones and tablets - that pass the company's certification tests.
The new PlayStation Suite initiative "will not only deliver the PlayStation experience to a wider base of users around the globe, but will also be able to offer game developers and publishers the potential to further expand their business opportunities to these devices," the Sony Computer Entertainment division says.
Disney Games snatches Sussman
Adam Sussman has been named senior vice-president of publishing for Disney Games, says Add Week.
Sussman, who will be undertaking his second stint at Disney, was most recently vice-president of worldwide publishing for Electronic Arts Mobile. At EA, Sussman was integral in the company's success in creating hit iPhone gaming applications.
Sussman's arrival at Disney comes following a recent shake-up within the Disney Interactive Media Group.
Gaming piracy troubles UK
British games publishing trade organisation UKIE has stated that for every game that is legitimately purchased, four are illegally pirated, reports Tech Radar.
UKIE says according to one of its members, the ratio of pirated to officially-bought games is 4:1, although a spokesperson would not disclose how this figure is broken down by individual format.
UKIE also claims that game piracy cost the UK videogame industry a massive £1.45 billion in 2010.
