Sony launches affordable plasma screen

By Sony
Johannesburg, 11 Feb 2004

Sony has introduced a new, aggressively priced, 42-inch wide-screen plasma screen to capture a bigger share of the rapidly growing plasma display market. Although affordable, the PFM-42V1 features WVGA resolution (852 x 480 pixels) and anti-reflective panel protection for the highest brightness and highest contrast image display in its class.

With its stylish, silver or black-coloured frame, completely flat screen and ultra thin profile, the new Sony plasma display is light enough to be mounted horizontally, fixed on an optional stand or to a wall, or even hung from the ceiling.

"In today's multimedia world, it is more important than ever to get your message across effectively, with greater quality, impact and style," says Sony Broadcast and Professional SA product manager, Display Solutions, Marius Louw.

The feature-packed PFM-42V1 has been designed to be a conduit for sales and marketing promotions for digital signage applications, including point-of-purchase and brand advertising, as well as information display in transportation hubs. Being networkable, it is also perfect for setting the right mood in restaurants, casinos, clubs and lounges playing background video to entertain. The monitor's rugged yet durable design also makes it ideal for rental and trade show applications.

Adds Louw: "Plasma screens are also favoured by the corporate world for high impact boardroom presentations, major sales conferences and to impress visitors in prestigious reception areas."

Multiple inputs and high-performance scan converter

Multiple Inputs Displays utilise 16:9 flat panels that provide smooth, high-quality images across the screen. They accept signals ranging from standard composite video to DTV and RGB computer signals at up to UXGA resolution. An integrated high-performance scan converter provides accurate pixel-by-pixel image reproduction, offering optimum image quality whatever the signal format.

Digital Video Input (DV-D)

This offers a high picture quality when used with a DVI-equipped PC (DVI video cable is supplied).

Digital Audio Amplifier

When used with the new optional speaker system, the integrated digital amplifier delivers crisp audio reproduction.

Other features:

* Split screen
* Easy-to-use remote control
* Picture zoom control
* Picture setting memory
* Six-language on-screen display
* Screen saver
* Energy-saving mode

Its affordability, high-quality pictures and many innovative features will make the PFM-42V1 one of the most popular plasmas on the market.
