Sony SA appoints NetActive Business Services as IT partner in a strategic move to e-commerce

Johannesburg, 16 Aug 2000

NetActive Business Services - a division of NetActive Limited, announced today that it has been chosen as Sony SA`s IT partner, as the international corporation upscales its local e-commerce in a half-a-million Rand deal. The initial two-year contract sees NetActive providing Sony SA with a dedicated server farming solution and leased line access.

"We wanted to find a hosting partner that understood what we wanted to do, the impact it will have on our business and a comprehensive proposal in a quick response time," says Deon Myburgh, IT Manager at Sony SA. "NetActive met all the requirements."

Within the coming months the corporation intends to substitute its manual interface with a business web, using the Internet, intranet and extranet in their business in adopting an e-commerce strategy.

As part of its aim to take away the manual interface of its business, Sony SA called for a simple, yet intelligent server farming solution. In recent months, Sony`s business activities over the Net have grown substantially. This growth has resulted in their need for a comprehensive, upscalable and reliable Internet solution to allow for easier and quicker interaction with customers and suppliers.

The solution will include server farming of its Internet and extranet, full advanced base options and a SITAKA server. The deal sees NetActive provide technical support, as well as on-site , maintenance and 24-hour server administration services, including firewall backup, for smooth deployment and reduced downtime.

"NetActive Business Services endeavours to bring the cost of ownership of Internet services down. We aim to improve our customer`s operational efficiency by developing strategic business solutions to contain cost, and limit complexity and redundancy of the hosting solution, without sacrificing the ability to support the changing business cycles of our clients," explains Larry Paslovsky, MD of NetActive Business Services.

Sony is a global leader in audio-visual technology and related components, and other consumer electronics. The Japanese corporation`s globalisation strategy was implemented to support production capacity, gain management expertise, as well as to partake in technology transfer. Today, Sony`s presence is evident all over the world, with a strong foothold in the USA, Central and South America, Europe, Oceania, Asia, Middle East and South Africa.

"We found that the previous ISP system was difficult to maintain at efficient operating levels. From our previous dealings with NetActive it is clear that the company is more than an ISP, in that they have a host of other value added services to offer and understood our business and what we wanted to do," says Myburgh.

The contract substantiates NetActive`s high quality value added services and heralds the company`s entrance into the global market for their Internet expertise.

NetActive group`s key differentiator is translating customer and market information into an enhanced value proposition for its customers. This has been achieved through realigning its operations into two divisions directed towards the core areas of the Internet economy, namely Internet Services and E Ventures.
