Sophos receives 'positive' rating in NAC MarketScope report

Johannesburg, 18 Apr 2008

IT security and control firm Sophos today announced that it received a "positive" rating in Gartner's "MarketScope for Network Access Control, 2008". Sophos was one of 17 vendors evaluated in the report.

Gartner defines the NAC market as "those vendors that sell appliance-based or endpoint software-based NAC solutions".

In order to be included in the report, the firm stipulated that "vendors' solutions must be composed of the policy, baseline and access control elements of NAC". Gartner noted that the NAC market "will grow approximately 100% in 2008".

"We're pleased with this evaluation by Gartner, which we believe validates Sophos's vision and delivery of preventive, and easy-to-manage endpoint security and control offerings," said Steve Munford, CEO of Sophos.

"Our NAC solutions are designed to cost-effectively and seamlessly integrate into our customers' existing environments - enabling those enterprises to optimise their endpoint security initiatives, without impacting the ability of employees, customers, consultants and partners to conduct business."

Executing on its acquisition of ENDFORCE in 2007, Sophos last month announced Sophos Endpoint Security and Control 8.0 - offering businesses complete, preventive computer protection. Notably, Sophos is the first endpoint vendor to incorporate NAC, enabling enterprises to keep all managed, unmanaged and guest computers on their networks healthy with up-to-date protection.

Integrating anti-virus, anti-spyware, host intrusion prevention, application control, firewall and NAC to block viruses and spyware, Sophos Endpoint Security and Control 8.0 ensures computers are running authorised, up-to-date software and adhering to company policies. Like its predecessor, Sophos Endpoint Security and Control 8.0 delivers cross-platform preventive security and control for desktops, laptops, file servers and mobile devices. This latest version of Sophos's flagship endpoint offering now integrates policy control and assessment for a simple and cost-effective deployment - eliminating the need for enterprises to install a separate agent, or incur additional software licence costs.

Rounding out Sophos's NAC offerings, Sophos NAC Advanced is a standalone endpoint assessment and control solution. Supporting the largest and most demanding customer environments, Sophos NAC Advanced offers customers greater policy flexibility and scalability.

The MarketScope assessed vendors on the following criteria: market understanding, marketing strategy, sales strategy, offering (product) strategy, overall viability (business unit, financial, strategy, organization) and sales execution/pricing.
