SourceCom, one of the country's largest system integrators and IT service providers, has added consulting, storage, helpdesk and security services to its service portfolio for government, parastatal and corporate clients.
Based in Cape Town, SourceCom has offices in Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth with affiliations in Bloemfontein and Durban. 86% of SourceCom shares are held by empowerment groups, while the majority of administrative, sales and skilled technical posts are held by people from previously disadvantaged communities.
CEO Sandra Connolly says SourceCom is aiming for 200% growth in 2000, consistent with its track record of 200% growth year-on-year since 1996.
"We took a conscious decision two years ago to focus the business on service delivery, and followed a very specific strategy in this period to gear our expertise in this direction," says Connolly. "Virtually any IT product today is a commodity, so value-add around a product is increasingly important." "We've been successful in leveraging our track record in the public sector to offer a broader range of value-added services to our clients," she adds. "This feeds back to our empowerment structure, which allows us to skill up staff internally for service delivery."
Connolly says real issues of empowerment are addressed at all levels of the company, with an emphasis on service delivery.
"Combined with out staff development track record, this sets us apart from companies trading on 'empowerment by numbers' as an entry ticket to government contracts."
SourceCom has established strong alliances with industry stalwarts Compaq, 3Com, Citrix, HP, Intel, Microsoft, Ixchange, Novell, Lotus, IBM and Cisco, giving it the depth of resources to meet its service delivery strategy.
"We have won the Compaq Premier Partner award for four years running, are one of the top Microsoft DLARs in the country, and one of the first Ixchange VARs for HEAT and GoldMine in the country," says Connolly. "Combined with a broad range of accreditations from all our partners, this sends a message of high value brand equity to our client-base and sets up the foundations to further extend our service portfolio in the coming year."
