SourceCom, one of the country's largest system integrators and IT service providers, has won Compaq's Premier Partner of the Year award for the fourth consecutive year.
The awards were announced at a gala event in Johannesburg on Friday, and were contested by Compaq's most successful channel resellers in the country, including more than 30 Premier Partners.
Based in Cape Town, SourceCom has offices in Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth with affiliations in Bloemfontein and Durban. 86% of SourceCom shares are held by black empowerment groups, while the majority of administrative, sales and skilled technical posts are held by people from previously disadvantaged communities.
SourceCom CEO Sandra Connolly says the award reaffirms SourceCom's long-standing relationship with Compaq since its entry to South Africa in 1995.
"Premier Partner status is the top tier of reseller accreditation and implies consistent and outstanding revenue and channel performance levels," says Connolly. "We were awarded Premier Partner status in 1996, and have won the Premier Partner of the Year award each year since."
"It's quite an achievement to be named top Premier Partner when you consider the calibre of the contestants, but our growth figures - in excess of 200% from 1998 to 1999 - speak for themselves."
SourceCom's distribution partner Tarsus was also named top distributor for 1999.
"Tarsus has proven itself yet again as the country's top distributor," says Connolly. "Our partnership sends a message to our clients of high-quality brand value, which has enabled us to increasingly provide value add services such as consulting, storage, helpdesk and security to our customers."
"Most importantly, it's assisted our empowerment policy of training up employees and giving them the skills they need to succeed in a competitive market," she adds. "We work closely with government departments and large corporates on empowerment projects, so the award gives our clients added confidence in our association."
Commenting on rumours that Compaq is planning to defocus from the channel and sell direct to market, Connolly says Compaq's public response contradicted these with a public message confirming its unequivocal commitment to the channel.
