South Africa's first Employee Profile Network

Johannesburg, 23 Sep 2011

Everybody involved in the procedure of employing and managing staff knows how time-consuming the task of confirming employee information can be.

The good news is that TPN StaffSure is here to revolutionise the process dramatically. Imagine being able to immediately establish the identity and employment history of a job applicant, by simply logging in to a single Web site: www.staffsure.co.za. No more frustrating searches for missing information or waiting for copies of documents to be provided by previous employers. It's that simple.

It's a well-known fact that many job seekers will stretch the truth to enhance their CVs. From “little” over-embellishments or “missing” work experiences, to masqueraded references, through to downright fraudulent applications. This frequently has the effect of increasing the cost of recruitment processes, and in the long run, generally results in “hiring the wrong man or woman for the job”.

The Basic Conditions of Employment Act requires that every South African employer provide departing staff with a Certificate of Service to enable ex-employees to re-enter the workforce. However, considerable frustration is then encountered during the recruitment process in verifying earlier work experience as stated on a CV. Ultimately, only the most recent employment details are checked as the cost of anything more detailed is prohibitive.

With its successful track record for building databases from scratch in industries where limited or no information is available, TPN Credit Bureau identified this need in the HR sector, and consequently launched TPN StaffSure, South Africa's first verified national employment database. The concept is to assist employers in the recruitment process by providing a detailed history of a person's work experience - effectively a certificate of employment from each previous employer, which confirms employment status, period of employment, position held, and valid details to call for a reference.

Employers can now fast-track applications where a detailed TPN StaffSure report confirms the accuracy of the job seeker's CV and their actual work experience meets criteria for the position available. The candidate will also benefit from a smoother interview process; be in a position to negotiate a better package, no probation period, request a permanent position instead of temporary employment, or possibly an earlier start date.

Michelle Dickens, Managing Director of TPN, says: “IT and integration are cornerstones of TPN's business. Information is a fundamental necessity in every business transaction, and hence we work tirelessly to ensure accurate, relevant information is collected by our bureau to enable swift and insightful decision-making potential for our members.”
