South Africa's Q-Kon selects AMOS-5 and AMOS-5i satellites

AMOS satellites' 17^0E orbital slot enables South African service provider to provide connectivity across African markets.

Tel Aviv, 25 May 2010

Spacecom (Tel Aviv Stock Exchange: SCC), the AMOS satellite fleet operator, today announced that Q-Kon, the South Africa-based telecom service provider, has leased long-term capacity on the AMOS-5i satellite and on its successor, the AMOS-5 satellite. Q-Kon is using the AMOS-5/5i platform for its specialist corporate network solutions to provide Africa-to-South Africa and Africa-to-Africa connectivity.

From its 17^0E orbital position, the AMOS-5i satellite's twenty-eight 36MHz equivalent C-band transponders deliver pan-African signals as well as connectivity to Europe and the Middle East, and nine 54MHz Ku-band transponders distribute two Ku-band regional beams. Q-Kon is leveraging the capabilities and reach of the AMOS-5i satellite to meet the connectivity needs of a variety of corporate, health, financial, telecom and other data centric businesses.

"The AMOS-5/5i satellites provide a powerful and reliable platform allowing us to meet our clients' needs throughout the continent," stated Q-Kon CEO, Dawie de Wet. "We are very happy to be working with the Spacecom team as we continue to augment our satellite sector capabilities and move our business forward."

"Q-Kon brings market expertise, engineering and service delivery capabilities reaching across Africa," said Amir Carmeli, Spacecom's vice-president of African sales. "Its excellent industry reputation makes Q-Kon a natural partner with which Spacecom can jointly develop African market initiatives."

"Our AMOS-5/5i platform is proving to be an intermediate and reliable solution for Africa's regional capacity needs. We envision the platform as a major carrier for data and broadcasting services for the continent and are pleased that Q-Kon has joined us in collaborating to achieve this goal," remarked David Pollack, president and CEO of Spacecom.

SPACECOM

Space-Communication Ltd. (Spacecom) is the operator of the AMOS satellites, which provide high-quality broadcast and communication services to Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Atlantic bridge to the United States. The AMOS satellite constellation consisting of AMOS-2 and AMOS-3, co-located at the prime orbital position of 4^0W and AMOS-5i at 17^0E, serves Direct-To-Home and other Television platforms in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, as well as provides a secure and stable transmission to government agencies. The extensive signal strength and prime location makes the AMOS platform particularly suitable for DBS and DTH operators, as well as a wide range of broadcasters, ISPs, telecommunications operators, and network integrators with Internet, voice, data and digital TV services.

The AMOS-5i satellite, the latest addition to the AMOS fleet, started service January 2010. At 17^0E, a new orbital position, Spacecom's coverage has expanded to Africa. AMOS-5i provides powerful C-band and Ku-band coverage over Africa and is serving as an interim satellite until the AMOS-5 satellite's scheduled launch in mid-2011. Once operational, the AMOS-5 satellite will replace the AMOS-5i in its orbital position, expanding both coverage areas and capacity, to deliver high-power C-band and Ku-band capacity to the entire African continent. AMOS-5 and AMOS-5i complement Spacecom's existing satellite fleet and together with AMOS-4, slated for launch in 2012 to serve Asia, establish Spacecom as a true global satellite operator.

Spacecom is traded on the Tel-Aviv Stock Exchange (SCC). Its major shareholders are Eurocom, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), General Satellite Services Co. (GSSC) and Mer Services Group.
