The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has finalised a shortlist of candidates for appointment to the board of the South African National Space Agency (Sansa).
The board, which will oversee the agency, monitor research priorities and programmes, and carry out the agency's strategy, is made up of representatives from government services, civil society and the military.
Government representatives, who have been shortlisted, include Francois Anderson, Robert Scholes and Leeandran Annamalai, from the CSIR; Rudolph Louw, of the National Aerospace Centre of Excellence; Maurice Magugumela from the National Nuclear Regulator; Nomfuneko Majaja, of the Department of Trade and Industry; Rosey Sekese, from the Department of Communications; and Brenda Titi and Kwanele Siziba.
Civil society representatives included Potlaki Maine, Mpho Mamashela, Lee-Anne McKinnell, Louisa Mogudi, Tsheko Ratseheko, Simangele Sekgobela, Carla Sharpe, Vincent Gore, Themba Buthelezi, Zola Fihlani, Joy-Marie Lawrence and Gideon de Wet.
The final board will comprise no more than 15 members and would have to be approved by science and technology minister Naledi Pandor.

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Science and Technology has considered the shortlist and approved it. The National Assembly will then have to consent to the suggested board members, while the minister will also have to approve the chairperson of the board.
