Although this is very exciting, what exactly is retransfer printing?
It is a superior method of direct-to-card print technology as found on all basic card printers. Direct-to-card, as it states, prints the image directly onto the card while retransfer technology prints the image onto a film, which is then bonded thermally to the card. This process is called reverse thermal image transfer.
Zebra's retransfer printers provide the fastest throughput in the market, with a single-sided print speed of 190 cards per hour and dual-sided coming in at 170 cards per hour.
With this technology we are able to print a card of superior image quality, while having true over-the-edge printing.
Combined with the ability to print very easily onto uneven surfaces such as smart cards and a wider variety of materials including non-PVC, this truly signifies a new age in card printing.
