Spectacular course, worthy cause promise a good day out

Johannesburg, 30 Jan 2013

When Elna Britz died in a car accident on her way to a company year-end celebration in 2011, the world continued its journey around the sun, but for her colleagues at Synergy, it was a dark day - in a matter of minutes they had lost a well-loved and much respected member of their team.

But Elna's life of grace, generosity and service to others was so infectious that Synergy could not erect a static monument in her memory - instead, they had to undertake something dynamic that would do what Elna did best: serve the cause of those less fortunate.

And what better way to do so than organise an annual memorial golf day, giving participants the chance to have fun - which Elna was exceptionally good at - and, at the same time, raise funds to do others good - which Elna was passionate about.

This year, then, sees the second Elna Britz Memorial Golf Day, and like the 2012 inaugural event, funds raised will go towards Foundation Backbone - a charity that supports organisations involved with children in need, adding some fun to these young lives. Synergy has been witness to the impact the foundation made when it used the 2012 funds to supplement daytrips to, and camps at, events such as the Argus Cycle Tour Bicycle Hand-Out and the 12 Disciples Leadership Camp, among other life-changing activities.

"We could hold a small in-house golf competition, or pass a hat around to raise some funds, but Elna understood and celebrated the value and joy of involving others to reach a common goal. To this end, and to maximise the opportunity to swell our contribution as much as possible, we open this golf day to individuals and companies to either play in, or sponsor, the event," said Synergy MD Christo Bredenkamp.

The Elna Britz Memorial Golf Day 2013 will be played at Cape Town's number four course, the picturesque De Zalze, where fourballs can play one of the city's jewels, enjoy an appetising halfway lunch and buffet dinner, and possibly take home some great prizes.

For sponsors, there are added benefits, such as:

* Inclusion in all pre-event electronic correspondence, with your company logo embedded in all documentation.
* Your company logo will be linked back to your official company Web site.
* Branding via pull-up and feather and/or A-frame banners in and around the clubhouse.
* The right to provide company branded promotional items to be handed out at the event.
* A branded hole on the golf course that can also be used by company staff to promote your products and services.
* Opportunity to provide prizes for the event.

Fourballs cost R3 500 and sponsorship is R1 000.

"We are excited about this event - it's a great opportunity for business people to network, to play a spectacular course, and to support a worthy cause: three of the things keen golfers are generally good at," said Bredenkmap.

The event is being managed by Golfbizniz's Riaan Myburgh, who can be called (021 975 5358 or 083 628 7395), or e-mailed (riaan@golfbizniz.co.za) for further information or bookings.
