SpeechWorks and Unisys join to drive deployment of speech applications for e-business

Leading speech technology pioneers Unisys Corporation and SpeechWorks International, Inc. today announced an agreement to deliver a complete, integrated speech solution for companies seeking a competitive edge in the global e-business marketplace. Unisys will integrate SpeechWorks 6 with its award-winning Unisys e-@ction Natural Language Speech Assistant (NLSA) toolkit and resell SpeechWorks 6 through its sales force and on the SpeechDepot Web portal (http://www.speechdepot.com) that Unisys sponsors.

The integrated solution from Unisys and SpeechWorks will allow companies to quickly and easily build and deploy large-scale speech solutions to automate capabilities including speech-enabled e-business. The partnership will leverage both companies` extensive business relationships to drive the adoption of speech applications among companies seeking to offer their customers voice-access to information, voice-enabled messaging and other revenue-generating enhanced services.

Unisys and SpeechWorks are also working together in the W3C Consortium to define industry standards, including VoiceXML for speech access to the in support of critical business applications.

Unisys NLSA provides application developers with the tools for designing and creating speech applications, application project management, development methodology and testing. The SpeechWorks 6 solution is built for automated speech recognition (ASR) in large-scale, customer service solutions and speech-enabled e-commerce. SpeechWorks 6 is based originally on research conducted at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
