Speer: Guaranteeing reduced IT TCO

Johannesburg, 19 Sep 2002

Speer has boosted its offering for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with new solutions and a guaranteed reduction in total cost of IT ownership.

Speer's new Total Business Solutions company is intended to deliver "best-fit IT business solutions" to the market.

Company founder and owner Jaco Strydom points out that Speer's entire management team has, at some point, been "a " and the team therefore understands the needs of both big corporates and SMEs.

"We are of how important the bottom line is, so we have developed a specific methodology to cut IT TCO [total cost of ownership] while providing effective, end-to-end maintenance services and business solutions," says Strydom. "The time has come for business to dictate the IT solution, rather than being forced into adapting to off-the-shelf ERP [enterprise resource planning] products," he says.

"The Speer promise is to provide customers with the necessary building blocks to deliver world-class products, services and solutions to gain the trust of our customers in value and unbeatable service delivery. Speer has a unique blend of all the required building blocks to provide customers with total business solutions. This unique blend of specialist partners and cross-functional teams enables them to focus on solutions specially geared at empowering customers."

Speer was launched a year ago, and has offices in Midrand and Centurion. Its client base ranges from major corporates - with a nationwide contract from PPC Cement - to SMEs in various industries.

"Our main differentiator is that we cover a total IT business solution. No one does what we do," says Strydom. "We guarantee reduced TCO, and offer contained monthly IT costs through proactive service."

Among Speer's new offerings for SMEs is an ASP Systems Model to enable the delivery of Web-based systems fast and cost-effectively. The model allows the customer to transfer current or new systems to a Web-based environment to allow access on the Net.

Another innovation is the Web-enabled help desk portal system, to help companies to deliver on their customer relationship management initiatives. Speer's new PC Life service product also helps SMEs to contain IT costs by offering the sale of service hours.
