WITS Health Consortium (WHC) and the Donald Gordon Medical Centre (DGMC), previously the Kenridge Hospital, recently appointed Speer Management Services (Speer) to rectify their IT infrastructure and deliver support and maintenance services. Definite stability advantages were evident since the Speer processes were implemented.
The objectives of the contract are to stabilise and maintain the current IT infrastructure to compliment the current Business. WHC and DGMC decided that they needed the expertise of a first class IT company to assist them in reaching their IT goals.

The Server infrastructure were consolidated, previously servers were located in different buildings, thus making the support on the servers difficult and tedious. The first part of the solution put forward by Speer was to standardise servers, operating systems, and reduce the amount of re-active calls logged on the helpdesk. All the old servers were replaced with current technology, with Microsoft Windows 2000 as operating platform. A Microsoft Exchange server was implemented to facilitate internal and external mail as well as Outlook web mail to users to access mail external to the network. All data are no stored centrally ensuring data security, integrity as well as full daily data backups.
Reducing helpdesk calls was achieved by using the Speer ER and Vitality products, creating stability. The approach from Speer is to make sure that projects and maintenance are treated as separate entities. This allows appropriate focus where necessary, and a much smoother operations.
