Spescom announces joint marketing deal with BT

Johannesburg, 10 Sep 2001

JSE-listed Spescom Ltd, a leading ICT group, has entered into a licensing agreement with world-leading network operator, BT, to globally market network termination products.

Under the terms of the 10-year deal, Spescom will exploit international market opportunities for the jointly developed technology. BT will provide specialist technical backup and support.

Worldwide there is increasing pressure on network operators for the provision of advanced broadband services. Superior network termination devices are required at the final customer connection point to maintain excellent service.

John Davies, chief operations officer of BT Wholesale, says Spescom was the chosen partner to BT, because it is a leader in the development of these products. "Having recognised the opportunity of exploiting BT's technology in the international marketplace, it was important to find the right company to take this forward, and we are able to combine Spescom and our technologies into a product."

Spescom international director, Simon Blagden, notes that this latest development in the BT relationship is a wonderful deal for the group in that it further ensconces Spescom's world-leading position in this market. "This agreement follows on the heels of the major contract awarded last year by BT to Spescom for the supply of these devices over a five-year period.

"The demand for this device, plus related products, is growing tremendously worldwide. Spescom is ideally placed to take advantage of this. We enjoy a very close business relationship with BT and we are delighted to be a chosen partner of a world-leading network operator," Blagden concludes.
