Spescom Software Inc, has announced that in cooperation with the US Department of Energy (DOE), NuStart Energy Development, LLC, has selected Spescom eB to support its efforts in licensing the next generation of nuclear power plants.
Spescom Software Inc is the US operation of JSE-listed Spescom Limited.
The initial contract, valued at approximately $500 000, will provide a system to support NuStart in preparing its licence application to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The application is for a combined construction and operating licence for new plants.
NuStart Energy is comprised of a number of member companies and leads the NuStart Energy Consortium, which includes two reactor vendors and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The consortium has submitted a proposal to the US Department of Energy (DOE) in response to the DOE's invitation to participate in a new licensing government/industry cost-sharing licensing process.
General Electric Company (GE) and Westinghouse Electric Company, LLC, are the two reactor vendors, and are under subcontract to NuStart Energy Development.
The selection of eB Nuclear by NuStart Energy characterises the significant role that Spescom is playing in the revival of nuclear energy in the US," said Spescom Software CEO, Keith Stentiford. "Working closely with our nuclear customers has allowed us to deliver best-of-class solutions for the nuclear industry. We are looking forward to participating in this important initiative to make the US more energy independent."
